Fairfield, Utah, is a small town nestled in Cedar Valley, approximately 50 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. Founded in 1855 by John Carson and his brothers, the settlement was initially known as “Frogtown.” The name was later changed to Fairfield in 1861, honoring settler Amos Fielding and reflecting the area’s “fair view” of the surrounding landscape. During the Utah War, the establishment of Camp Floyd nearby led to a population surge, with over 7,000 soldiers and civilians temporarily residing in the area. Following the Civil War, the camp was abandoned, and Fairfield returned to its quiet, rural roots. Today, Fairfield is home to the Camp Floyd State Park Museum, which preserves the history of the area, including the Stagecoach Inn and the Fairfield District School. As of 2022, the town’s population was 78, with a median age of 50 and a median household income of $117,500.
